MORE than £4,000 was presented to the Children's Hospice South West by top chef Peter Gorton last week, following a highly successful series of charity lunches at the Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy. The lunches, held between January 16 and February 16, raised a splendid £4,226.40 — a further £210 was donated from the sale of Peter Gorton's cookery books which he published especially for the hospice. Accepting the cheque, Alison Berridge, special projects co-ordinator for the hospice, said: 'It's an enormous amount of money and we are extremely grateful for Peter's continued support, enthusiasm and dedication to our children. 'He's a busy guy with a busy schedule; we are so appreciative of the fact he takes time out for us. For a master chef to come up and flip burgers at our hospice barbecue says it all really — he's one of the good guys.' Peter said he was delighted the charity lunches had proved so popular. 'We actually did them for a slightly shorter time this year, yet still raised more money than last year,' he said. 'I'd like to say a really big thank you to our customers for supporting us, because we couldn't do it without them.'
