FOLLOWING the success of their first fundraising event together, in 2008, Operation Sunshine with the help of freelance home economist Sally Wetherbee staged a fondue evening in Yelverton Memorial Hall.
Guests were introduced to two different maturity levels of Le Gruyere cheese, followed by the chance to make their own fondue with Le Gruyere AOC bubbling away in the caquelon at their dinner tables. The committee provided delicious desserts to round off the evening.
Sally said that in the last four years, sales of Le Gruyere had more than doubled in the UK and we now use more than 1,200 tonnes per annum with a value of £22-million.
Yelverton Stores and Crebers, Tavistock both stock Le Gruyere AOC.
