MORE than a hundred spectators and participants turned up at the Pimple on Easter Sunday to revive the medieval tradition of egg rolling. Children in groups of three took turns to roll their hard boiled and beautifully decorated eggs down a course laid out on the slope of the Pimple to see which would go the furthest. The under 8s winner was Murray Bond and Fleur Hull won the over 8s. They both received a commemorative mug and a gift voucher. In addition, the top six entrants received a signed certificate from the chair of the Charter Group, Cllr Iain Andrews. All the children attending received a special Easter Egg bookmark. Events co-ordinator Tavistock librarian Moira Andrews said they had 36 entries from children and several requests from adults who wanted to join in. Some people attending the event remembered egg rolling on the Pimple as children. She thanked all who attended and for their hard work in decorating such lovely eggs. ?It really was a cracking good time,? she said. The egg rolling is part of a whole year?s events organised to celebrate 900 years of Tavistock gaining its Market Charter in 1105. All events directly organised by the Charter Group are free. The full programme is available from Tavistock Town Council, Tavistock Library, Tavistock Tourist Information office, the pannier market and local shops.
