THE new Lamerton Sports and Community Centre hosted the annual Handbell Festival, held by the Lamerton Handbell Ringers, on Saturday, 13 October. A record number of teams from across Devon and Cornwall took part, filling the Centre to capacity. The festival was particularly well supported, with an excellent standard and good competition throughout. The Ockment Valley Ringers won the Mr and Mrs P Dawe Cup for best tune ringing. Okehampton boasted more success with the All Fours winning the William Manning Memorial Shield for best peal ringing and the Hamlet Trophy for best four-in-hand. Most improved team were Brixton Ringers and Whitchurch Juniors won the Firkins Shield. The others teams were Phoenix Ringers from Teignmouth, Callington Ringers, Loddiswell Ringers, St Dominick Ringers, Whitchurch Seniors, Plympton St Maurice Ringers and The Lamerton Senior and Junior teams. Judges were Fergus Stracey, Shirley Culverhouse and Clare Stagg. Julia House presented the awards. Lamerton Handbell Ringers are donating festival profit to Children?s Hospice South West.
