A LANDMARK development for West Devon Homes - the 50th home built or bought since the company was formed three years ago, will be opened next week.
The development provides the first new affordable housing in Mary Tavy for more than 20 years and took ten months to complete.
The project to build a total of 16 homes represents a true rural partnership.
Mary Tavy Parish Council were keen to promote new housing to ensure the village remained vibrant and existing services such as the shop, post office and school remained viable.
It also expressed concern about rising house prices, and the lack of housing for local people.
All the houses built by West Devon Homes have been allocated to people with strong local connections to Mary Tavy.
West Devon Homes says the parish council's support was vital in securing the development.
West Devon Borough Council identified Mary Tavy as a priority and together with the Housing Corporation, provided grant funding towards the £290,000 project.
Dartmoor National Park Authority similarly identified Mary Tavy as a priority and were able to substantially reduce the land costs associated with the rented housing.
West Devon Homes also continued its successful working relationship with developers and contractors Midas Homes to produce a mixed housing development.
Midas in their own right developed ten homes on the site for sale on the open market, while acting as contractor to West Devon Homes which developed six more properties.
Two, two-bedroom houses are for sale on a shared ownership basis and four more for rent.
A key handing-over ceremony will take place next Friday, August 9, when the Chairman of West Devon Homes board of management will present one of the families moving into the new houses with their new set of keys.
