I HAVE just read with interest that we in West Devon have for the first time entered the list of top ten council districts in the country for recycling, meaning we have sent 1,410 tonnes less waste to landfill compared to the year before.

Our council deserves a big pat on the back for making it easier than ever for us all to play a small part in making this world a more sustainable place for our children, grandchildren and their children yet to be born.

Consider too that the more we recycle the less council tax needs to be spent on collecting rubbish to throw in big holes in the ground.

But many of us can still do more and help improve our figures still further. Here's to a future where every single one of us thinks twice about what more we, as individuals and households, can do to lower our environmental impact still further.
