RECORD numbers of spectators from the Okehampton area and across the county made last Friday?s 21st Sticklepath Fireshow a night to remember.

The fireshow is held at Finch Foundry Field each November 5, with the kind permission of the National Trust.

Celebrating the theme ?The Life of Guy?, a Guy Fawkes and character from each of the past twenty fireshows joined together on stage in one of the largest ever casts for the show. Some of the characters were again played by the same person who had portrayed them in the original fireshow.

After the starlight procession and a fabulous fireworks display, this year?s stage, a city transported to Sticklepath from a far-off galaxy, was once again burnt.

One overheard comment was that the fireworks were even better than last year?s New Year?s Eve display in London.

Secretary of the Fireshow, Fiona Hitchcock, said ?We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the show, especially as this year costs have risen dramatically across various areas.

?We are also indebted to the many local businesses and members of the public who help in so many ways to enable the show to exist in the first place.

?First and foremost though, the children who participated in the show itself all had a fantastic time, including making their own puppets which they wore on the night.?
