TAVISTOCK painter Arthur Read was recently presented with a General Service Medal earned more than half a century ago.
Arthur served in the Suez Canal Zone in 1952 as a National Serviceman. The medal was presented to him by his son?s commanding officer, Lt Col Mike Nicholls of the Military Service Corrective Training Centre, Colchester.
Arthur?s son Rupert ? who has himself seen service in the Middle East, having twice served in Iraq ? is seen here congratulating his father.
Fans of Arthur?s paintings, who were disappointed he did not hold an exhibition this year, can contact him on Tavistock 615245 and arrange a visit to his studio, where he is currently holding a sale of work.
