A VIEW of RAF Harrowbeer as it was during wartime can be seen at an event hosted by the Knightstone Tearooms, Yelverton, over the Easter weekend.

The RAF Harrowbeer Archive/Memorabilia Weekend aims to make visitors and locals aware of what went on during the 1940s on a stretch of moorland close to Yelverton.

It will show how the village was split in half, buildings demolished and roads repositioned to make way for a second world war RAF fighter station.

On display will be a diorama of the airfield as it would have been in 1943.

A copy of the station operation record book from when Harrowbeer was officially opened to the day it closed and copies of some of the squadron's operational record books and numerous photographs. A small stall will sell aircraft models, games and toys.

There will also be exhibits by the South West Aviation Heritage Group and the Harrowbeer Interest Group, who will be giving guided walks throughout the weekend from 1pm to 4pm.

On site is a small museum containing artefacts, documents of the period and RAF uniforms.

The event will be held on Easter weekend, April 3, 4 and 5 from 11am to 4pm each day. There is no admission charge and parking is plentiful.
