PUPILS at St Andrew's Primary School, Buckland Monachorum have been presented with new wheelie bins and litter pickers to help in their fight against litter in their playground.
A local businessman, who recycles wheelie bins, agreed to donate some of the big green bins to the children after reading about their tidying up initiative in the Times a fortnight ago.
Kevin Kodritsch made the donation to the school following morning assembly on Friday, February 1.
Kevin said he was happy to present the gifts to encourage the children to continue their conservation work, an area in which he was particularly interested.
The year four pupils at St Andrew's were so concerned about litter problems in their school grounds, they wrote to West Devon Borough Council asking what could be done about it.
Council rules mean they are not able to supply bins or litter pickers to schools, but they did provide help and encouragement for the children.
But now, thanks to Mr Kodritsch, the concerned children are able to solve the problem.
The donation is a temporary measure which is part of a larger scale project to tackle litter problems in West Devon schools.
Mr Kodritsch offers a selection of recycled wheelie waste bins from his website.
