THE hugely-successful Okehampton Hospital Appeal?s organisers have said a giant thank-you to everyone who helped by donating to the appeal which has enabled the new community hospital to be furnished with state-ot-the-art equipment.
The fantastic response of local people helped the appeal to reach its target of £250,000 in remarkable time.
Appeal administrator Karen Percival said an inventory of all the equipment purchased had now been produced so people could see where their money had gone.
Thanks to the generous donations from the Okehampton community, the appeal was able to provide the Dartmoor Ward with: two hi-lo baths; patient hoist; two specialist stroke beds; patients? bedside lockers and wardrobes; ceiling track hoist in four beds; medical supplies storage system; dining and day room furniture and visitors? chairs.
The appeal equipped the maternity unit with bedroom and nursery furniture and cubicle tracking and privacy curtain.
The fundraising campaign also helped equip the Redvers unit with a hi-lo bath, bedroom, dinning and day room furniture and cubicle tracking and a privacy curtain.
For the minor injuries unit, the generosity of the people of Okehampton provided telemedicine equipment, which will save patients travelling to Exeter for specialist examination.
The minor injuries unit has also been provided with a medical supplies storage system, two autoscopes and two opthalmoscopes and cubical tracking and privacy curtain.
The appeal also purchased a spirometer for the chest clinic, a exopthalometer for the eye clinic, an examination lamp for the family planning clinic, speech and language therapy equipment and waiting area chairs.
Other pieces of equipment which were purchased thanks to the appeal were an x-ray processor, which speeds up the number of x-rays which can be taken, an adjustable height table for occupational therapy assessment prior to discharge and office furniture and a blue seal oven.
Mrs Percival said there were still funds available and request coming in for their allocation. ?Our aim is to provide up-to-date, state of art equipment for patients,? she said.
All this was in addition to the innovative gardening and landscaping work which was also supported by the appeal.
