CHAGFORD-based Helpful Holidays have given something back by announcing their chosen charity of the year as well as their support for two worthwhile and environmentally friendly organisations. Every year Helpful Holidays asks its holidaymakers to support a different local charity. This year, it is Devon Air Ambulance. Helpful Holidays promotes the charity in its brochures and asks customers for a £1 donation with each booking. The firm then matches the total raised at the end of the year. Last year, Farms for City Children, the Iddesleigh-based charity which introduces city children to life in the countryside benefitted from donations to the tune of £2,121. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) promotes clean waters across the South West and produces a useful guide to the region?s beaches. Helpful Holidays is supporting the good work through publicity and a sponsorship package. To try to do their bit to mitigate the effects of the carbon emissions associated with their business, Helpful Holidays is also supporting Climate Care. Through its sustainable energy projects, Climate Care reduces pollution equal to the amount created, a process called carbon offsetting. Moray Bowater, general manager of Helpful Holidays said: ?We try to choose projects connected to the region ? and our business ? so this year, in addition to the Marine Conservation Society and Climate Care, we are also supporting the Woodland Trust and Green Lanes in the South Hams. ?Last year, we were delighted to raise more than £2,000 for Farms for City Children ?we hope to beat that this year for Devon Air Ambulance.?
