Okehampton Ladies Hockey Club . . . .7

Teignmouth . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2

BOTH teams used this friendly fixture away at Teignmouth to experiment a little.

Teignmouth played a round of subs in different positions which made their game variable. Okehampton used the opportunity to try out some different passing patterns with varying degrees of success. Okehampton started by scoring in the first few minutes when Jo Moppett and Kelly Cooper swiftly cut through defenders with Jo pushing the ball past the goalie. The second goal took a similar route and Okehampton grew in confidence.

Jo Stephens, at left wing, took two goals in quick succession with lightening and effective dashes to edge the ball past the goalie. Sue Stanbury scored a beautiful goal off a short corner strike in text book style to finish the first half.

The bitter wind was wearing for both teams and it took Okehampton a while to settle into the second half while Teignmouth made some good passing among the forwards pay off. A goal mouth scramble gave one goal to Teignmouth and they made good use of a loose hit out to score again.

Okehampton had Claire Smith battling well as left half with Alex Collins having a good game as centre half. Sharon Stone made some impressive saves in goal. Okehampton got their act sorted to take two more goals in the last quarter with Jo Moppett getting her third and Kelly Cooper scoring Okehampton's seventh goal.

Okehampton are at home with a league game on Saturday against St Agnes.

With only four league games left, Okehampton needs some wins to secure their place.
