Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 2
Biscovey 3
Mary Tavy 6
MARY Tavy took their depleted squad to Biscovey for the first of two meetings in a week and came away with full points after an inspiring display.
With James, Pocknell, Coole and Reeves all unavailable Tavy did well to settle so quickly and took a two-goal advantage.
Dan Brockington pulled further in the lead in the goal stakes by adding to his tally, calmly lifting the ball over the stranded keeper for the first. James Philpotts, probably the most influential player on the day, slid the ball in from an acute angle after striking the post with his first effort.
Tavy were caught on the hop as their defence stopped with the ball seemingly going out of play only for the cross to be lashed in at the far post for the start of a Biscovey comeback.
The attempted revival was almost halted by the departure of one of their players sent off for abusive language, but with ten men they managed to square things with the simplest of goals.
A quick throw left an unmarked striker to flick the ball past a bemused Tony Rawlings in the Tavy goal.
Ben Stephens eased Tavy?s fears with a low drive at the far post to put them ahead again and when Biscovey were awarded a penalty they were thwarted by the upright which spurred Mark Piper to make it 4-2 with a glorious free kick.
Philpotts was rewarded for his hard work with a neat back flick to make it 5-2, but not yet finished Biscovey claimed their second spot-kick of the day following a clumsy challenge and this time made no mistake for their third.
Brockington started the day and finished it with his second at the back post. Philpotts was denied his hat- trick late on with a sublime finish but was called back for offside.
