AN Okehampton couple were joined by many friends and family members to help celebrate their 50 years of marriage with a meal and a party.

Derek and Ruby Webber celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with more than 60 friends and family, while raising £550 for Multiple Sclerosis — receiving donations to the charity instead of presents.

The couple met at the annual fair in Chumleigh and married a couple of years later in 1961.

They have lived at various locations across the country, as Derek worked for the prison service, and ended his career at Dartmoor Prison.

Ruby ran officers' clubs in the places they lived.

Derek and Ruby have lived in Okehampton for around 18 years now and have two daughters, four grandchildren and are very soon to become great-grandparents.
