A WEST Devon couple are celebrating their golden year of wedded bliss after getting engaged under an old oak tree 50 years ago.

Jim and Molly Cribb met at the Catholic Church in Tavistock in 1959. Both living in Gunnislake at the time, Jim 18 proposed to Molly, 19, under an old oak tree in Calstock Road, Gunnislake in 1961.

They married the same year at the Salvation Army Hall, Kilworthy Hill, Tavistock.

The couple had three children after they moved from Gunnislake to Tavistock in 1974 — Josephine, George and Susan — and they now have seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

To celebrate their anniversary Jim and Molly had a surprise meal with their family at the Blacksmith's Arms in Lamerton.
