MEMBERS of the Elephants Nest Cricket Club at Horndon raise a glass to toast the memory of George Cutland before their game against Sticklepath CC. George was club president for fifteen years from 1991 until his death in December 2005. Club members decided that it would be excellent if George?s memory could be evoked by placing a fine hardwood bench in the location where George used to sit when he came to matches. The bench was funded by donations from friends and club members and carries the words ?George Cutlland ENCC President 1916-2005? routed in the top rail. A very generous president George regularly contributed to club funds. For many years, he insisted on funding the annual trophies for the club which was a considerable contribution. George was also good value at meetings and if a bit of straight talking was required, George would provide it. One year it was decided to institute a single wicket competition and naturally George insisted there should be a fine trophy to go with it which he would buy; this was of course the Cutland Trophy and long may it be competed for.
