St Dennis 3

Gunnislake 1

AFTER their long lay off this third fixture in five days on their travels proved too much for a depleted Gunnislake squad.

Midway through the first half Andy Wakem found Lee Underwood who levelled matters following a tenth minute St Dennis goal.

Further goals just either side of the turnaround were enough for the home side to claim victory. However, Gunnislake never gave in, applying much pressure. Dave Tout's 25 yard free-kick that struck the post was the closest the visitors came to getting back into the match.

Gunnislake 3

GUNNISLAKE claimed a fantastic three points with this hard earned victory against the current league leaders. With 12 games to play this result leaves Gunnislake 14 points behind St Minver, the Saints having only two fixtures left.

In the continued absence of regular keeper Andy Woodward, Kevin Mayle went in goal allowing Mark Southcott to return to his defensive duties.

With the slope and a strong wind in their favour the home side made most of the running in the opening 45 minutes. However, they only really threatened on one occasion to open the scoring when an impressive effort struck the crossbar.

It was Gunnislake who had the lead at half-time. Lee Underwood challenged well for a Joe Pulley free-kick and the ball fell to Steve Gaggini who calmly slotted home.

The second half was end to end with both teams creating and missing a couple of opportunities until shortly before full-time the visitors struck twice.

Firstly, Andy Wakem, James Millidge and Underwood got the ball to Gaggini and the midfielder again finished coolly. Within minutes an Andy Southcott free kick rattled the cross bar, Millidge heading home the rebound.
