FORMER students and teachers of Tavistock Grammar School are being invited to attend a film showing of life at the school during the 1940s and 50s next week.
Tavistock College has been sent a film about events at what was then the grammar school during the headship of Mr K A Anderson, from 1947 to 1954. The film was discovered recently by his daughter and she kindly sent it on to the college, knowing that teacher Helen Harris is particularly interested in the history of the college.
Mrs Harris said: ‘The film is over an hour long and is packed with fascinating vignettes of life then, from the Founders’ Day procession through town to various sports days and school dramatic productions, with views of the staff and students from that time. We haven’t edited it at all as we don’t want to cut out anyone who might come along and see themselves, remembering life then.
‘We welcome any former students and staff from the college interested in seeing the film. Parking will be at the college and there will be some parking available very near the entrance for anyone with disability issues.
Coffee and cakes will be provided and we anticipate that this will be a real day of nostalgia. There will also be a display of college photos and a chance to access the online digital archive.’
The film will be shown in the main hall of the college on Wednesday, July 6 at 10.30am.
