IN reference to some articles from the last few weeks ('Stop bickering and go for a supermarket', June 28 and 'Why Tavistock is one of Britain's best market towns', July 5) I feel the need to write.
As a local for some years, I feel that Tavistock does definitely not need another supermarket to detract shoppers from the independent shops that exist in the town, a great selection of independent retailers which you cannot match anywhere else locally. I agree that something does need to happen with the old Focus site but not another food outlet. Maybe a garden centre or general DIY store? I do find it a chore to have to drive to Plymouth to be able to get these types of products.
I would add that Morrisons, which I feel has had some problems with checkout queues in the past, seems far behind them now and the store, with its friendly and helpful staff is back on track providing me my main supermarket shop each week with no problems at all.
I really enjoyed Morrisons Garden Centre and it showed that the store was trying to serve the customers of Tavistock with something different as a great prices, I'm just sorry it's now closed. Some readers don't know how good they have it here.
