AROUND 200 people gathered in Simmons Park last Thursday to help celebrate the tenth anniversary of the foundation of Home-Start West Devon. As well as magic and puppets, circus skills with Elfie the jester, a number of families also went on to enjoy the free swim at Parklands pool afterwards. The mayor of Tavistock and mayoress of Okehampton presented two volunteers with certificates in recognition of ten years continued support of families within the borough. The big tea party raised £130 for Home-Start West Devon funds and a further tea party organised in Northlew by Miss Brenda Curtis and Mrs Helen Thorne raised the same amount. Home-Start West Devon is a local charity ?supported by a national organisation ? and is run by people living and working in the borough. Home-Start?s annual meeting is being held at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton, today (Thursday) at 3pm, and anyone interested in joining the committee or becoming a home visiting volunteer is welcome to attend.
