MISSING the Olympics already? Never fear — the annual Peter Tavy Village Fayre on Monday, August 29 will help clear the post-Rio blues with a sporty twist on the activities for the Dartmoor Teddy Bears’ Dangerous Sports Association.

Gates for the fayre, which brings scores of people to the village, open earlier than in previous years at 2pm. There will be something to entertain all ages, with traditional games, including skittles and a coconut shy in and around the village hall and Methodist chapel. Stalls to browse include Granny’s attic, books, plant and garden, homemade cakes, jams and preserves and more.

As always, the Colley Brook will be awash with yellow for the duck race, plus there will be a raffle, sheep shearing demonstrations and a tombola.

This year, at the 16th annual meeting of the Dartmoor Teddy Bears’ Dangerous Sports Association, daring cuddly toys can get an Olympic experience with a ‘power assisted’ long jump challenge.

Alongside the fayre, the 13th annual Peter Tavy Plod footrace and fun run will take place, with the fun run at 12.45pm and the main plod starting at 1pm. This five mile race and childrens’ fun run starts and finishes at the church before heading through the village and climbing to its high point at Stephen’s Grave, descending through the hamlet of Cudlipptown before returning to the village. The route follows moorland track and footpaths; entry is £7 for the plod and £2 for the fun run. To find out more and enter visit www.petertavyplod.co.uk
