GUNNISLAKE celebrated St Piran’s Day in style over the weekend with the village’s second annual St Piran’s Day Festival.
Visitors to the event were entertained with music from local bands, including Ronnie Cox and a capella group The Last Watch, along with tales and crafts from local story teller Kevin Cotter.
The event was organised by Carrie-Ann Bailey on behalf of the Gunnislake Festival committee which runs a yearly family fun day and week of events in the summer — this year it will run from June 28 to July 6 in various locations around the village.
Thanks to a selection of raffle prizes donated by local businesses and a selection of cakes and biscuits baked by the villagers themselves, the event raised £335.93.
The money raised will be split between the festival committee to fund future events and the Gunnislake Village Hall committee, which is currently in the voting round of the Callington Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme, to raise funds to buy new chairs.
Carrie-Ann Bailey said: ‘After the success of last year’s event — the first ever St Piran’s Day event in the village — people kept asking me if I was doing it again, so I did!
‘I love the community feel that comes from the event, with the decorations and the food being made by the community.
‘It really feels like it’s “their” event. Hopefully, it will continue on year after year.’
