Okehampton Columbines 3

Exmouth Ladies 2

THIS was a battling game of hockey in which both sides suffered injuries, bringing them down to ten players.

Vicky Taylor, playing left half in her first game for the Columbines, had an excellent match. Her skilful dribbling and strike at goal which was well-saved by the Exmouth keeper, set up the first goal, which Viv Weatherington scored off the rebound.

Taylor scored the second in a similar move ten minutes later.

Columbines were dominating, Netta Collett and Alex Collins particularly were letting little past them on the right side of the pitch.

Early in the second half Jo Stephens scored with a well-taken reverse stick flick to put Okehampton 3-0 ahead.

Exmouth scored two goals late in the game.

Okehampton lost Liz McCay, who had a stalwart game at right back, to injury ten minutes from time and had to hang on till the whistle before being sure of a deserved win.

l Sunday saw the Columbines go to Exeter to meet a strong young Isca side in the cup.

Isca are top of the South Division League and were always favourites to win the match.

Debbie Hutchings in her first game ever as goalkeeper did outstandingly well to keep the score down.

Columbines created several chances of their own and Beth Stephens was twice unlucky not to score. However, Isca won convincingly to put Okehampton in the Plate round of the cup for first-round losers.
