AROUND 60 people braved a blustery and rainy Saturday to take the opportunity to visit the Fatherford Road allotments in Okehampton last weekend, to view the selection of produce they grow.
The allotment association secretary and organiser of the open day, Tony Dion, said: 'We thought it was a good showing.
'The visitors to the site took great interest in seeing how people made use of their plots and it was also an opportunity for allotment holders to get together, compare successes and failures and to get ideas of what to grow next year.'
Visitors were asked to vote for what they considered to be the best plot and, to their delight, members of Okehampton's Puzzle Tree were announced as the winners.
The allotment association will be awarding an engraved plaque to the Puzzle Tree to mark their achievement.
The allotment association would like to extend their thanks to Jasmine Jones and Andy Stone for organising the tombola, Tony Dion for his work in organising the event, Peter Green for donating the plaque for the best plot, everyone who volunteered produce and raffle prizes and the trustees of Okehampton United Charity who turned out en masse to help celebrate the open house.
