ON AUGUST 30 the 25th Annual Charity Bonanza was held at Tavistock Pannier Market, and 15 local charities took part in this combined fundraising and information event. I am pleased to report to you, to your readers, and to our supporters that the combined income of the charities on the day looks to be in excess of £5,000.  What a wonderful result, and our thanks must go out to everyone who helped to achieve it, including 'Friends of Tavistock Area Support Services' ( who organised the day), the Mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Harry Smith, who together with his wife Mrs Mary Smith, opened the event, the market reeve and his merry band of workers, all of the local charities attending, all of the wonderful people who donated goods and money to those charities, and last, but by no means least, we must thank and celebrate the army of volunteers who are supporting charities in the Tavistock area.  Without these charities, and volunteers, lives for the vulnerable within our community would be very difficult indeed.  They are certainly the unsung heroes of our lives.  Many, many thanks to you all.      Bryan Podmore Friends of TASS
