THE Plough at Torrington next weekend hosts a feast of splendid baroque music such as Handel and his friends might have enjoyed in his London home. The Galeazzi Ensemble was formed in 1995 in order to explore the delights of 18th century music using instruments of the period. Finalists in the 1999 York International Early Music Competition, The Galeazzi Ensemble have gone from strength to strength. They have performed on Meridian and BBC Television, and BBC Radio 3, and have continued to give concerts for festivals and music societies. Their CD The Age of Elegance was released by London Independent Records at the end of 2001 to great critical acclaim in the music press, and they have recently produced a second CD, Views of Vienna. For their concert at The Plough the programme will include: Handel — Trio Sonata in B minor; Bach — Trio Sonata in G; Vivaldi — Sonata for Cello and Continuo in B flat; Telemann — Trio Sonata in G; and Handel — Concerto a Quattro for Flute, Violin, Cello and Continuo. The concert starts at 7.30pm on Saturday December 16. Tickets: £12 / £10 concession / £9 supporters, box office: 01805 624624.
