THE road from Doublebois to Minions in East Cornwall is likely to remain closed for the rest of today while fire crews continue to damp down and search for potential hot stops at the site of W H Orchard and Sons scrapyard.

Relief crews from across Cornwall were brought in to tackle the blaze overnight.

Four major appliances from Delabole, Polruan, Saltash and Callington remain at the scene of the fire, together with two water carriers from Wadebridge and Helston, which are shuttling water to the scene, and specialist firefighting equipment including a high volume pump, and an aerial platform ladder platform.

Diggers are being bought in later this morning to separate the cars on the site to enable crews to identify and deal with any hot spots.  This work is likely to take some time and Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety service expect the incident to continue until late afternoon.

The road from Doublebois to Minions will remain closed until this work has been completed.
