CYCLISTS using Drakes Trail have reportedly been riding at speed on the pavements in Whitchurch and Bishopsmead.
Members of the Tiddy Brook Meadows Residents’ Association say they have witnessed speeding incidents on many occasions and have raised their concerns with local police.
The area in question is from Drakes Trail at Bishopsmead and Woodpecker Way at Tiddy Brook Meadows to Dipper Drive before crossing Anderton Lane to continue along Drakes Trail.
Chair of the association Marysu Godfrey said: ‘Residents are worried and annoyed by the large numbers of cyclists who refuse to use the roads and insist on using the pavements.
‘This isn’t about children but adults who whizz along our pavements at speed and could easily cause an accident.’
Mrs Godfrey added: ‘Because it is becoming such a problem the residents’ association will be paying for polite notices to be put up as well asking cyclists to use the roads not the pavements.’
A spokesperson from the Tavistock police said: ‘We would like to remind cyclists to please use the roads and be polite and courteous to walkers and residents.’
