POLICE in Okehampton will be visiting pubs in the town and surrounding area as they open to customers once again from Saturday (July 4).
They are reminding people that things will not be as free and easy as they were before the Covid-19 crisis, with social distancing still in place and people asked to book in many places to avoid getting too close together.
People are being asked to give their details to staff behind the bar, too, so they can be traced in case of an outbreak.
PCSO Emma Tomkies said: ‘Now that some public houses are reopening on July 4, we understand that many of you will be wanting to make the most of this to meet up with friends and family.
‘Please remember that social distancing guidelines are still in place and pubs and restaurants will have new ways of booking into and visiting their establishments.
’To avoid disappointment, please call ahead to make sure that there is space for you and make sure that you pass all of the details that they require.
‘Police will be on patrol and visiting these establishments to ensure that these guidelines are being adhered to.’
