POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision in Okehampton on Saturday night (August 19) in which a 62-year-old man died.

Emergency services were called at 10.50pm after the silver Ford Focus left the carriageway on the B3260 where it meets the A30 eastbound off-slip at Meldon.

The car travelled over the roadside barrier and through trees before landing upside down in a field.

The driver, a 62-year-old man from Okehampton, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female passenger, a 52-year-old Okehampton woman, was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by ambulance and was treated for minor injuries.

Local officers as well as officers from the roads policing team and serious collision investigation unit attended the scene.

The road was closed for four-and-a-half hours for an examination of the scene to the carried out.
