POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Okehampton’s Victorian Arcade earlier this month as well as anti-social behaviour which has flared up in town since the lockdown was relaxed.

Officers are seeking information from the public about an incident in which a man suffered significant bruising and a broken nose in The Arcade in Fore Street, pictured, on Saturday, July 4 between 9.15 and 9.50pm, crime reference is CR/053899/20. The police are also urging the public to share any information they have on a spate of anti-social behaviour in the past few weeks.

Sgt Nathan Walker said: ‘In recent weeks Okehampton has seen several reports of anti-social behaviour. I am very understanding of the impact this type of crime has on our community and I would like the residents of the town to be reassured that action is being taken against those that carry out these activities. This action includes both formal action through the Criminal Justice System but also supportive work involving several public services. We aim to provide a longer term solution that has a positive outcome for everyone involved. Whilst we carry out that work I would like to encourage the residents of our beautiful county to report anti-social behaviour via 101/999 or through the contact pages on our website.’
