POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a burglary and attempted murder in Buckland Monachorum over the weekend.

Police were called just after 8pm on Saturday, June 18 following reports of a fight between two men in the village.

A 34-year-old man from Yelverton suffered serious head and facial injuries and was taken to hospital. He has since been released.

A 28-year-old man from Yelverton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary and has been bailed until July 27 pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Dave Atkinson said: ’It appears that our victim had returned home to find his house had been burgled and the person allegedly responsible was seen leaving the scene. The victim approached the suspect and was subsequently attacked and struck around the head with instrument causing significant injuries.

’We are appealing for witnesses and urge that anyone who saw the serious assault, the burglary or simply anything suspicious in the area around the time of 8pm, that they come forward to police; you may hold information vital to our investigation.’
