SPEEDING motorists and concerns about drug use were the key issues raised by shoppers when Devon and Cornwall’s police and crime commissioner Alison Hernandez held a Meet Your PCC event at Tavistock Pannier Market on Wednesday, August 30.

Ms Hernandez spent three hours talking to shoppers and meeting stall holders, asking about their concerns and experiences of dealing with the police.

‘It was clear that people in Tavistock and those visiting the town have a really good relationship with the police,’ she said.

‘The main talking point was, without doubt, concerns about dangerous driving on the rural roads around the town, particularly on the moor. I know road safety is a key issue for the chief constable but I will be seeking assurances from the relevant police commander that this matter is being treated seriously in the Tavistock area.

‘People also spoke to me about concerns with drug taking. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of reporting issues like this to the police – via the 101 email address [email protected]. The more that people report issues the more evidence the police has to best judge the level of response.’
