A MAN in his 70s has died following a single vehicle collision at Monksmead, Tavistock in the early hours of this morning.
Police said emergency services attended the scene of the collision which occurred just after 3am and the man, the single occupant of a red Fiesta, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said the vehicle was coming down Callington Road towards the town and hit the wall of a driveway at a property in Monksmead
The man is not believed to be local. Police are in the process of contacting his next of kin.
Callington Road is currently closed and officer in charge Sgt Steve Butler-Jones of Barnstaple Traffic Unit said it was likely to be closed for another 90 minutes while accident investigators continued their enquiries and the vehicle was recovered.
Motorists are being diverted through Uplands and down Crease Lane to get into town. Drivers coming from the Gunnislake direction are also being advised to take the turning by the Horn of Plenty and head to Tavistock via Carrs Garage and Lamerton.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward who were driving on Callington Road around 3am or any dashcam footage. Quote police log 91 of October 8.
