FOUR emergency heart defibrillators have been installed at key points in Burrator thanks to the parish council.
The lifesaving devices are now in place on walls outside the Burrator Inn at Dousland, Meavy Parish Hall, Walkhampton Memorial Hall and on the toilet block building at Burrator Dam (pictured).
The defibrillators were funded with a grant of £6,000 from the Communties Together Fund from Devon County Council provided for community events and needs in the county.
Burrator’s grant was administered by West Devon Borough Council.
The parish application for grant aid was very well supported by Devon County Councillor for Yelverton Rural Philip Sanders and West Devon Borough Councillor for Burrator Diana Moyse.
They both voiced the opinion that this would benefit both parishioners and visitors to the area.
Chairman of Burrator Parish Council, Cllr Robin Aves, said: ‘I am delighted that we have been able to provide, with Devon County funding, safety devices for the community and visitors.’
There are instructions with the defibrillator boxes for use in an emergency.
A code is provided below the box to open it and automated voice instructions are given during its use.
The machines and their locations have been registered with the South Western Ambulance Service, which should always be phoned in an emergency via 999.
The parish council expressed thanks to the following for their help in installing and setting up the defibrillators:
Peter Shapcott and Mike Perkins for Walkhampton Memorial Hall, Phil Cater and Ball GB for Burrator Inn, Kate Luffingham and Ball GB for Meavy Parish Hall, South West Lakes Trust, Stuart Lowe and Dr Patrick Drennan for the Burrator Dam public toilets.
