FIREFIGHTERS and rescue agencies were called to the River Teign, near Fingle Bridge, to rescue people that had become trapped in water after their canoe capsized.

One crew from Chagford, one crew from Moretonhampstead and the specialist rescue team from Exmouth were called just after 3pm on Easter Sunday.

On arrival, the crews proceeded on foot along the river bank until they located the casualties who had managed to reach the side of the river.

Firefighters confirmed that there were no serious injuries and escorted the casualties to a safe location.
