One fire appliance from Hatherleigh attended a carbon monoxide alarm sounding in a domestic property in Petrockstowe on Monday November 21.
Crews arriving on scene set about checking the property with breathing apparatus and gas detectors.
A second appliance was requested for further gas detection equipment. An appliance from Okehampton was sent.
When the Okehampton appliance arrived, crews continued to check the property. A positive carbon monoxide reading was found, so crews isolated the gas to the property, and ventilated the building using a positive pressure fan.
On the same day a fire appliance from Okehampton was mobilised to a chimney fire involving a wood-burning stove in a domestic residence in Sampford Courtenay. Crews used chimney gear to extinguish the fire.
FIRE appliances from Holsworthy and Hatherleigh were mobilised to a report of a workshop on fire at Forest Houses near Halwill on Monday, November 28 at around 2.19pm.
On arrival fire crews reported one workshop, approximately 10m x 3m, with smoke issuing. The fire involved a wood burning stove which had spread to the timber cladding.
Crews used two breathing apparatus wearers, a foam extinguisher and a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire. Small tools and two Makita saws were used for cutting away and making safe. The building was 5% damaged by fire and 10% by smoke. The cause of the fire was accidental.
DEVON and Somerset Fire Service received a call reporting a cow stuck in boggy ground near Cheriton Bishop on Saturday, November 26.
One fire appliance from Crediton and water rescue equipment from Exmouth attended. Upon arrival they found a single cow stuck in mud approximately four foot deep.
Fire crews transported their equipment to the area to start the rescue. The cow was rescued by fire crews using animal rescue equipment and led to an area of safety.
A FIRE crew from Okehampton was sent to reports of a car on fire on the A386 Hatherleigh Road on Friday (November 25).
The fire crew received a call from the driver whose car was on fire just after 7.30pm. The crew used two breathing apparatus, one compressed air foam jet and small tools to extinguish the fire, which started accidentally. The car was severely damaged by fire and, once extinguished, duty of care was left with the awaiting recovery.
