DEVON and Cornwall Police have launched a campaign aimed at stamping out hate crime.

The #ZeroTolerance2Hate campaign aims to raise awareness about what hate crime is, as well as encouraging people to report it.

There is also an online pledge for organisations to sign up to and show their support at www.dc.police.uk/sign-the-pledge

Sgt Pennie Channing, acting neighbourhood team leader for West Devon Police, said: ‘Zero tolerance to hate crime is so important because everyone has the right to feel safe in their community, in work, at home or at school.

‘There should be no place in modern society for hatred and only by working together and supporting each other positively can we overcome the prejudice that sadly exists.’

Hate crimes are any incidents which are a criminal offence which have been motivated by racial, sexual or other prejudice. They can be reported online on the police website or by calling 101, the force’s non-emergency number.

Incidents can also be reported through third party organisations, including Stop Hate UK.
