IF you want to be technical about it Georgina Lane is only one year older than her eight-year-old son Stephen!

Georgina celebrated her 36th birthday on Tuesday — but she has only had nine 'official' birthdays because she was born on a leap year.

Not that this quirk of the calendar concerns her much. As a child her parents compensated for the missing day by making the dates either side extra special.

'They gave me my main present on February 28 but my parents also gave me a little present on March 1 because they said my birthday was "in-between". My mum always joked that I was awkward.'

Georgina, who lives in Broad Park Road, Bere Alston, works at Tavistock chartered accountants Francis Clark.

She says she has always enjoyed the novelty of being a leap year baby although she admits it was more fun as a child.

'It is something different. It can be a bit of a talking point. It helps to break the ice. Some people think you only get one present every four years — but I always celebrate on the 28th.'

She will also be celebrating during the weekend with a nice meal with her son Stephen and partner Jason.

Never mind the years, people say you are as young as you feel. So what about Georgina with her parallel ages?

'I don't feel 36 but I also don't feel nine — and if I did I shouldn't have all these adult responsibilities!'

Just imagine. In another 16 years she can discover being a rebellious 'teenager' all over again . . .
