THE line-up for the 30th Dartmoor Folk Festival has now been announced ? a top list to mark the event?s anniversary. The annual South-Zeal-based festival ? which has grown to be regarded as one of the top events in the British folk calendar ? will this year be held from Friday, August 10 to Sunday August 12. One name headlining in this anniversary year will be familiar to many folk enthusiasts in the area. The Dartmoor Pixie Band has had a long association with the festival. Its founder-member, the late Bob Cann, also started the festival ?consequently receiving the British Empire Medal for his service to folk music. Today?s Pixie Band also includes Bob?s grandson, Mark Bazeley. Other top national and local artists who will feature at this year?s festival include The Yetties, The Demon Barber Roadshow, and The Witches of Elswick. Jiggerypipery, Merrion Row, and Alison McMorland and Geordie McIntyre will also be performing, alongside Pete Coe, Ticklish Allsorts, and folk festival regulars The Orchard family, Paul Wilson, and Marilyn Tucker. Other guests this year will include Tony Beard, the Wag from Widecombe, Dave Wills, and several morris and dance teams. Regular favourites such as the Dartmoor step dance and broom dance championships, song and music sessions, a Dartmoor Fayre, and a Sunday ramble will also feature on this year?s programme. Camping will be available in fields close to the main festival site on the village playing fields. Events will also take place in the nearby village hall, pubs, Church House, St Mary?s Church, and other venues.
