A POLISH man died following an accident near Winkleigh last week which resulted in the road being closed for nine hours. Police named the deceased man as Piotr Ireneusz Jaskola, a 25-year-old Polish national. He was driving a red Escort towards Winkleigh when it was in collision with another car travelling in the opposite direction. Mr Jaskola was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred on the B3220 about three miles east of Winkleigh at Brookland Bridge at about 7.30am on Thursday. The other vehicle, a silver VW Golf was driven by a woman, who was taken with her 10-year-old son to North Devon District Hospital. Police say their injuries are not believed to be serious. The road was closed on the A377 at its junction with the B3220 and the B3220 at its junction with the A3124 while collision investigators worked at the scene. It was re-opened at 4.40pm. Mr Jaskola had been living in Mid Devon although his next of kin are still in Poland.
