TWENTY-five former classmates from Tavistock Grammar School travelled from all over the country to attend a reunion recently. The year of 1956 met at the Blacksmith?s Arms at Lamerton for lunch and poured over the old panoramic-style school photographs before heading off for a visit to Tavistock College and Tavistock Primary School. The group was shown around the college, which amalgamated the grammar and secondary modern schools when the year of ?56 reached the fourth form, by a current sixth form pupil. Gerald Cramp, who attended the reunion, said: ?Part of the tour was a visit to what had been the classroom of the maths teacher Wilf Rawlings. ?We were able to visualise him standing at the front of the class teaching us about quadratic equations or Plymouth Argyle ? he was a keen supporter ? as we were sitting in our original positions in the room. It was very spooky.? Tavistock Primary School was the former grammar school building although it has had some quite major changes over the last 50 years. The year of ?56 has been meeting annually for the last ten years.
