OKEHAMPTON Golf Club ladies have had a successful week. Starting on Monday July 19 the Still Cup team had a visit from East Devon. A lot of good golf was played, with some very close matches ? two of the games decided on the 18th hole.

Okehampton won 5-2, which converts to 12 points to 6. This meant a good result on Friday could mean reaching the finals.

On Tuesday Dawn Phillott and Penny Deakin went to Teignmouth for the Willes Little County Cup.

They played Elfordleigh ladies, and despite giving them 15 shots they won 4 and 2. They are now in the finals, which will be played at Libbaton on August 23.

On Wednesday 10 teams took part in the foursomes Express and Echo competition. Scoring was difficult and the winners with 34 points were Penny Deakin and Cherry James, runners-up with 32 points were Pam Jarman and Janet Hatch.

These two teams now play the finals at Exeter Golf and Country Club on September 24.

On Friday the Still Cup team went to Stover to play the last match in their division. They came up against a very strong team, but with Dawn Phillott winning after being 4 down at the turn, Amanda Clifford winning on the 18th and Mo Huggins and Pam Jarman gaining two halves, they had a very creditable result of 9 points to Stover?s 10.

It remains now to see if they have enough points to make the finals. Whatever happens Okehampton Ladies have had an excellent season, and some very good golf has been played.
