MORE than £1,200 has been raised by the Rotary Club of Tavistock to support Devon Air Ambulance and the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.

Rotarians John Morton and Graham Parker, with their wives Judy and Ginnie, friend Davina Ludwig and dogs Gemma and Totty, recently completed the gruelling 13-mile hike across Dartmoor in aid of the groups.

On a chilly and foggy day on which visibility was often less that 100 yards, the team walked via Widgery Cross, Yes Tor, Meldon Reservoir, Sourton Down and High Willhays.

Despite finishing with a broken rib from a slip whilst crossing a stream, Graham said: 'This was a brilliant day, organised superbly by our colleagues at the Rotary Club of Okehampton.

'The other 20 or so teams were such good company and we were all extremely proud to support such a good cause.'

This was the second running of this event, the Dartmoor Autumn Challenge, organised by the Rotary Club of Okehampton. It is expected to raise a final total of more than £4,000 to be presented to Devon Air Ambulance and the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue team.
