A MOTHER and daughter from Iddesleigh took part in a 100-mile sponsored walk around the spectacular South West Coastal Footpath from Falmouth to St Ives last month.

The walk was in memory of Ria Garland, who died unexpectedly from epilepsy last November.

Jackie Sweet and her daughter Louise Sweet were joined by Ria?s mother Annie Garland for the walk around Cape Cornwall, raising money for epilepsy research.

Jackie said she had decided to do the walk in memory of Ria: ?So many people miss Ria so much, she was a true light in the lives of the people who knew her.

?It was a unique experience travelling on foot through such beautiful places, flower-spotting along the Lizard, negotiating the slippy serpentine rocks at Kynance Cove, waving to the singing seals off the Carracks, stopping off for a special welcome at the Marconi Centre and getting lost in the fog by Geevor Mine.?

The walk which took place between July 9 and 16, will have raised more than £5,000 once all the donations have been collected.

Jackie said the team would like to thank all the people who had sponsored them.

She added: ?Not so long ago, we all spent a memorable girlie weekend in St Ives, Ria and Louise both still students at the time, with their ?Fairy Godmums? Jackie and Annie?, so the walk finished there, with a glass of champagne, a toast to Ria and toes in the sea.?
