Plymouth and West Devon four
Plymouth Rangers 2
Yelverton Villa 4
IN the first 25 minutes the end result appeared far from likely, as Villa's sluggish start cost them an early goal when they were caught napping from a Rangers' corner.
However, when Villa did wake up, the game changed dramatically and they created a number of chances. Some impressive work by Mike Chatfield down the right flank exposed the Rangers' defence, and a fine cross from Jonny Leppert picked out Dave Harwood to head into the empty net.
Yelverton peppered shots at the Rangers' goal. Harwood hit the post, and moments later Leppert's 25 yard strike hit the crossbar and bounced onto the goal line before being cleared by a Rangers defender.
A clever pass from Colin Murray put Ben Maughan through one on one with the keeper, but he lashed his shot over the bar, and another Leppert shot needed a fingertip save to turn the ball over the bar.
Just before the break a short spell of Rangers pressure produced a fine save from Mark Easterbrook in the Villa goal.
Yelverton made a better start to the second half but it was Rangers who took the lead after a poor back pass sold Easterbrook short and the keeper was unable to prevent Rangers from scoring again.
Yelverton went in search of the equaliser and their determination was rewarded with a penalty, following a handball by a Rangers' player, and Harwood stepped up to score Villa's second goal.
Villa brought on Dan Lee, Matt Bird and Martin Harris, to strengthen their position; and all three were involved in the goals that sealed the victory.
In the 80th minute Harris flighted a freekick into the Rangers box, Lee and Bird both flicked the ball on before Adam Measom drilled the ball home. Five minutes later Murray crossed the ball to Harwood, whose first time effort was saved by the keeper but Bird scored from the rebound to wrap up the points.
