Yelverton Bohemians U15s got their season off to a winning start with two victories.
In the ECB U15s Cup first round Yelverton beat Plymstock by 15 runs.
Josh Halloran (20 not out), James Douie (16) and Jay Warner (15) were the main run scorers in an innings of 77 in a match reduced to 15 overs a side.
A good fielding display in difficult conditions restricted Plymstock to 62 in their reply as Yelverton won by 15 runs. Tom Bedford (3-50) Ben Pearson (1-5) were the most successful bowlers for Yelverton. Yelverton visit Cornwood U15s in round two.
In the first week of the West Devon Youth League Yelverton hosted Lewdown U15s. Despite the recent wet weather, the fixture survived thanks to the hard work of groundsman John Cowsill.
Yelverton won the toss on a gloomy evening and captain Jay Warner had no hesitation in electing to bat in a match reduced to 16 overs per side.
Josh Halloran (2) fell early on to the bowling of J. Weeks, and skipper Warner was joined by Ben Pearson and the pair were initially cautious and looked to take quick singles to frustrate the fielding side.
The pair put on a second wicket partnership of 70 in 10 overs before Warner fell for a well played 40 (five fours) with the score on 81. Pearson hit two sixes in his 31 before being bowled by T Pearce. Both Matt Adams and Harry Dunlop fell cheaply, but James Douie (19 not out) played a short cameo innings to get Yelverton up to 105-5 off their 16 overs. Lewdown's successful bowlers were J. Weeks 1-5, T. Pearce 2-8, T. Pengelly 1-7 & T. Burns 1-28.
Lewdown's reply started badly as Harry Dunlop bowled T Pearce first ball. Dunlop opening spell took two more wickets to finish up with figures of 3-0-5-3.
There was to be no let up for the Lewdown batsmen however, as Sam Skelton replaced Dunlop and picked up 2-0-2-3. Harry Peak and Matt Adams took a wicket each and Matt Adams the assist for a run-out as Lewdown were bowled our for 39 leaving Yelverton winners by 66 runs.
P Ewan top scored for Lewdown with 16no.
