Around a dozen Yelverton Bowling Club members went to watch their team triumph in the Devon County final for the Men’s Unbadged Triples at Culm Vale Bowling Club on Sunday, September 13.
This was the culmination of a competition which started at the beginning of the summer. Yelverton had to beat three local teams to proceed further, and then in August travelled to Bradworthy for the quarter final, which they won 11-16.
On finals day itself, they beat Tiverton Canal 16-14 in a nerve -wracking close semi final, and were crowned county champions after a magnificent 27-9 win over Seaton in the final.
It’s been a while since anyone at Yelverton became a county champion, and everyone at the club is incredibly proud of the team. The players involved were Phil Collins, Pete Golden and Ray Butler, not forgetting their trusty substitute, David Fletcher. They were presented with the trophy on the day, by Bowls Devon Men’s President, Ray Parker.’
