FOR the second year running a charity day for Devon Air Ambulance was held at Yelverton Bowling Green.
It was the idea of one member, Nick Capel, who wanted to raise funds for the charity, but also wanted to have a fun social event. As the ladies hold a similiar day to raise funds for St Luke's Hospice called Doreen's Day, it was decided after much deliberation that the men's day be called Nick's Day.
Ably assisted by his mum, Lyn, Nick set about organising the day for this year. Lunch was supplied and raffles took place before the men went onto the green for a fun game of bowls. Spirits were high and all participants enjoyed their fun afternoon.
The winners of the best novices spoon were jointly won by James Peters and Terry Jackson. The winner of the Nick's Day trophy was won by Dennis Collett with a score of 62 points; second was Don Whittaker and joint third were Peter Golden and Roger Peters.
A grand total of £175 was raised for the Devon Air Ambulance. Well done to all who took part and the club looks forward to next year's event.
